Writers use pen names for all sorts of reasons. These are all open pen names, I’m not making any effort to keep it a secret. So why use the pen names? Mostly for branding. I write material that falls into different genres. This is the current break-down:
- Fantasy – Michael Burges
- Horror – R.M. Haag
- Urban/Dark Fantasy – Tennessee Hicks
- Science Fiction – Ryan M. Williams
- Mystery – Ryan M. Welch
- Romance – Kate N. Ryan
The names are all variations and combinations of family names, except for “Tennessee Hicks”, which was the name of my great-great-grandmother. I liked the sound of it for an urban fantasy author.
