National Novel Writing Month / NaNoWriMo starts today!
I’m not doing it.
It’s a great idea. It’s a lot of fun. The trouble I’ve had for the past few years is that I’m always working on something else when November comes around. Right now I’m over 70,000 words into my current work-in-progress so I’m not going to put that aside to start something new.
But I’ll do something else.
One of the key aspects of NaNoWriMo, the thing that really makes it work, is public reporting. By setting a goal and then reporting your progress publicly, it helps you stay on track. So I’ll do the same thing.
Let’s set a goal:
Write 50,000+ words in November.
I’ll track my progress on Twitter, follow me at ryanmwilliams, and on my Challenge page, where I have a calendar tracking my progress. I may make this a regular thing, posting different challenges each month. That sounds like fun!

Ambitious goals! Sounds like you’ll have a pretty good shot at finishing the novel this month. I’ve only tackled works in the novella/short novel territory so far, I think next year I will add a couple novels to my goals…
And congrats as well on the sale to OnSpec. I’ve never yet sent them anything but they do seem like one of the better semi-to-pro markets.
I’ve gotten off to a good start in Nov. with 4300 words written, but you’re about to leave me in the dust as I’ve just been hit with an unexpected long weekend trip that will probably mean little or no writing until at least Monday for me…
Take Care

I think I will finish the novel (assuming I stay on track). Originally I thought I’d finish it by the end of next week but I doubt that’s going to happen. You’ve been doing a fantastic job getting the stories done. I’m just not finding enough time to get as many stories finished as I’d like, but the novels have taken priority. I recently released one under my mystery pen name, and two others this year under other names. This fantasy novel will probably be the last book that comes out this year.
Thanks, good luck with everything!
Ryan
